Until you fall off the wagon. Adding a little snack of chocolate cake with butter icing to your meal program today doesn't seem to make a difference. So you start creating your own combination of foods, adding a little milk shake here, a candy bar there. Before you know it, you've created a diet of your own, one guaranteed to widen your hips and tip your weight to the right of the scales.

But laughing aside, overweight is a very serious matter. It can lead to high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack and other serious health conditions. Dieting to lose weight is a very important factor in lowering your chances of acquiring a serious health condition. You don't have to follow a strict regimen. Just keep several things in mind before placing anything in your mouth.

If it's junk, don't eat it. Chips, cookies, cakes, ice cream, sodas, junk food in general are very high in calories and almost zero in nutrients. Get rid of junk. Empty calories will only give you fat and nothing more. Opt to eat nutritious food that is lower in calories but high in nutritional content.

Eat more fruits, vegetables and grains. Go back to basics; the food pyramid lists fruits, vegetables and grains. Rich in vitamins and fiber, your body will benefit from the enzymes and detoxifying properties of these foods. Grains also satisfy your craving for starches, since it is also a carbohydrate, without giving you the extra fat.

Don't starve yourself. Contrary to popular belief that the less you eat the more you gain, starving yourself makes you eat more at the next meal. Don't wait for you to get hungry before you eat. Take five small, well-balanced meals a day.

Drink plenty of water, at least eight glasses a day. And most important is get some exercise. !5 minutes of exercise a day combined with a healthy, well-balanced diet is sure to make you lose that weight and keep it lost forever.
